Tesco loses it's license

The local Tesco has just lost it's license to sell alcohol after having been caught selling booze to underage children three times.

On the one hand, it's a good thing. This is clearly a management problem, not a simple mistake, and so it should be the company that suffers.

On the other hand, I'll have to walk further to get me beers!

[update: the Worthing Branch has lost it's appeal, and the appeals for the two Crawley branches are due to be heard in July]

Good.

It might make them tighten up a bit, and make a few other shopkeepers think twice too.

When they get caught out three times in a fortnight the old excuse of it being a one-off, and all the fault of whichever poor scapegoat employee was working that day wears a bit thin.

The BBC were outside filming when I went past to get home. Otherwise I'd have not known until tomorrow (or even next week).

As I've said before, they are always advertising for people and the place seems a little disorganised. Mind you, it's a lot better (and cheaper) than before it was a Tesco's.

How embarassing for Tesco!

However, it would seem that the licence suspension has not actually come into effect yet.

Either that ot they illegally sold me 4 bottles of Corona last night.

I assume that if they appeal, the ban is held up until the appeal is heard?

I wonder if the magistrate can increase the penalty...

Noticed this week that the Worthing appeal was heard and Tesco lost - that branch will have it's licence suspended for 4 weeks from Monday - and the Crawley ones are due in the next couple of weeks.
