Political Lies

In the last edition of the Crawley News, a letter appeared from a Walter Shuttleworth which alleges that John Mortimer 'vehemently supported' the transfer of housing.

At best, Mr Shuttleworth is seriously misinformed, because John Mortimer has always taken the exact opposite stance, along with five other Labour councillors. At worst, Mr Shuttleworth is a liar. I expect that it is the former that is the case, although how anyone who has taken an interest in the housing issue over the past few years could have arrived at the conclusion that Cllr Mortimer did anything other than oppose transfer is beyond me.

I'm even more perplexed that Richard Symonds, normally a man who has an idea of what is going on, has repeated the allegations...

Get real, Danivon, I have not "repeated" Shuttleworth's "allegations".

I have already answered your 'charge', and will not dignify your above comments with a repetition here.

I'm also perplexed you are perplexed about my criticism of John Mortimer.

I didn't think I had to remind you, of all people, that there is a county council election coming up in May - maybe even a General Election.

If I am able, I will be standing as an Independent candidate for Ifield (again) - primarily to ensure that the BNP don't get a look in...and also...

Tu comprend ?

No there isn't.

There is a borough council election.
There will not be a county election until 2009

There is even less chance of a general election this year!

Oh yes there is - said Punch to Judy !

I like the new look BTW.
Very nice.

Cheers Skudz. It looks a bit less cluttered now.

Richard - ummm. What can I say? You say that there is a County election due this year (when it is in 2009). John Mortimer's BC seat is not up for election until next year.

So I can see why you might be confused about other things.

And, by the way, I don't know how you standing does actually ensure that the BNP don't win - are all your voters close to supporting the fascists?

Blast ! I was wrong. You were right. An apology is now due from me, but not a grovelling apology...

The Horsham District Council elections are due this May - not WSCC or CBC.

I can see why I've made the mistake - and thank you for pointing it out now (blast you:) - I have been so 'tied up' fighting HDC's plans for 2500 houses in Ifield Parish that I assumed (wrongly) that there was a county council election at the same time - sorry.

As to your other comments, I won't be intimidated into a reply (yet)...I can only assume you are one of those Labour people who think I was personally responsible for Labour losing control at the last election :)

No... I don't think Owen is confusing you with Tony Blair ;)

Richard. I'm aghast! You don't realise that there's a Borough Council election this year? That Ifield is up? Well, I didn't tell you, ok?

Perhaps you were too tied up in researching the possibility of a fascist conspiracy emanating out of County Hall to check... (oh, and 'fighting' the HDC plans too, yeah).

John's response in the paper was pretty robust, and he even pointed out his repeated objections to other aspects of government policy.

Oh, and you are wrong. Of all the factors that may have lead to the loss of 3 seats in Crawley, you are not in the top 5, let alone the prime reason. Nice to see your ego still in play though, Mr Symonds.
